What makes Superbowl adsorSuperbowl Commercials a super hit
with advertisers? Answer – Buzz!
Not just on Monday morning around the water cooler, but long after
the game and even throughout the year marketers are hoping to
keep viewers attention.
2012 Superbowl Ads Cost?
For a 30-second spot advertisers are paying a whopping $3.5
million. (That’s a lot of Nacho chips)
Is it worth it? Well, how often do you get 111 million fans all in one
room at the same time? That’s right, and advertisers know that a
successful ad can completely set the path for the company and its’
brand.
Take Volkswagen’s 2011 Superbowl Ad with its “Star Wars” theme,
adorable little boy and funny hook. A quick viral hit, with over 49
million views on YouTube and doubling volume sales of the 2012
Passat sedan for the year.
When done right the payoff can be huge, and so Volkswagen
figures, hey, if it ain’t broke, as they keep with their Star Wars
theme for this years’ big game.
The Volkswagen Beetle teaser spot has already reached over 10
million views on YouTube. Shop Amazon Sports – Gear Up for the Super Bowl
Celebrity Buzz! Celebrities also hope to cash in on Super bowl mania by creating a little buzz of their own. With the high price of entry to a spot in the big game, advertisers try to pack a little extra punch with celebrity attraction, even if the celebrity has little or nothing to do with the brand being advertised.
Unfortunately, according to AceMetrix research firm who specializes in measuring ad effectiveness, ads featuring celebrities are 3 percent less effective than those without them. However, for the celebrities it can be huge.
The cost to hire a celebrity for a super bowl spot can range anywhere from $50k to $1.5 million. That’s a lot of cheese, but the real payoff is the uptick to the celebrities image, unless of course the commercial itself really tanks.
Still, advertisers are willing to pay the big bucks for celebrities because they realize or at least hope they can cash in, not only on the current viewing audience, but through the fans and followers of the celebrity within their social media accounts.
Numerous celebs have social media followers numbering in the millions, and if these celebrities are tweeting and facebooking about their upcoming date with Superbowl destiny, well that’s a win-win for both celebrity and advertiser.
Last year, Best Buy scored a touchdown when they snagged A-List celeb and phenom Justin Bieber earning the chain 25 million+ web views within mere days after the game, but that’s not all, it also garnered 1.3 billion consumer media impressions.
So what are some of the ingredients of a super delicious Superbowl commercial?
“They make us laugh, they make us cry
sometimes we gasp, sometimes we sigh,
whate’re the force, they hope we buy,
for the way we watch, goes the bottom line.”…jpnetco
We’ve all heard “Sex Sells” but does it really? Some researchers say, not so much. They have found that spots with sexual overtones are 10% less likable than ads without racy images, based on analysis of multi year results from USA Today’s Ad Meter, who electronically rates Super Bowl ads as they air.
So, what, according to the research do most of us prefer to watch?
Most viewers would actually rather see ads with kids or animals.
However, someone forgot to tell the advertisers. Even though sex tones in Super Bowl ads are getting edgier, it’s really nothing new.
Doritos has used it, as well as Pepsi, Anheuser-Busch, but, GoDaddy is probably the big daddy of them all.
Apparently, the researchers don’t recall around 1999 and that young marketers dream come true, the Internet, when Victoria’s Secret used the ole sex ploy. In a first quarter spot, with lingerie runway models promoting an online fashion show due to air four days after the big game, the VS website crashed when 1.2 million viewers went to the site, not four days after the game, but immediately after the spot aired during the game.
So, there you have it. Football is big, but the SuperBowl is, well, Super Big. I’ve even heard rumors of making it a National Holiday, but in my opinion that would be moot, because most people are already off on Sunday and most businesses are closed.
To all the advertisers serving up those Super Superbowl Ads and Commericals in this Sunday’s game, good luck, play fair and maythe best Mad Men win.
Hey, who’s playing this year anyway, I’m just going for the commercials.

Valentines Day Gifts for Mencan often times be a daunting task, even for the most imaginative shoppers. Especially if that special someone is the proverbial “man who has everything”. Following is a list of suggestions from users of an Amazon forum that I thought might help to spark a few ideas if you find your self in need of a little gifting inspiration. I hope you find it helpful and wish you all a very Happy Valentines Day!
I have sent flowers to my hubby for Valentine’s Day in the past, his birthday and one year for Mother’s Day (thanking him for making me a mother). All occasions very well received.
Purchase 12-15 songs from iTunes that express your love for him, how he makes you feel, how you see him, etc., and make him a CD. Make sure they’re songs that he’d like, not your traditional sappy love songs.
If he is a movie lover, you might try a gift basket with a new movie or a gift subscription to Netflix, along with his favorite soda, popcorn and candy.
Make him his favorite dinner with a bottle of his favorite wine:)
I don’t like those boxed chocolates, but my husband loves them. So I always buy those for him. My husband also likes reading while he is in the bathroom, so I get him interesting books. Just recently, I got him the UFC Encyclopedia from Amazon. I am sure there are different books like this on whatever sport or hobby he enjoys.
If he has an iPhone, how about this gadget: http://wakemate.com/
It’s supposed to wake him up during the lightest point in his sleep cycle in a time window he chooses, using a sensor on his wrist to detect him sleep cycles.
If he’s a NFL fan… then check out www.imonds.com
They have awesome NFL jewelery for men and women.
How about an e-gift card from Amazon? I just ordered one for my 39 year old son’s birthday that is coming up. It is sent online right to his inbox & he can purchase anything he wants with it! I am also sending pizza to his office for lunch since there are only 3 of them that work there.
If he has a desk job, why not a gift basket with a desk accessory and treats ?
Do you have a favorite gifts for men idea, one that you have either received or one that you have given to someone else? If so, please feel free to share with our readers in the comments section below.
Black Friday/Cyber Monday are done for 2011 and with only a couple of weeks till Christmas, are all the deals gone as well?
No, enter Green Monday and Free shipping Friday.
The 2nd Monday in December (Dec. 12) was branded Green Monday about five years ago by Ebay. There are still deals to be had on this, one of the biggest shopping days of the year.
Free Shipping Friday, for all you “put off till tomorrow” types (like me) this year falls on Friday, December 16th. Thsi is one of the last chances to find some of those big holiday discounts.
Retailers who participate in this day are offering free shipping on online orders and guaranteeing delivery by Christmas Eve.
Do your research now to find who is participating this year by going to FreeShipping.org or FreeShippingDay.com.
Many retailers require a code to get the deal but not all are doing this. Two of my favorites that do not require any type of code are Amazon and Walmart. Walmart even says the offer applies to over 100,000 items, just look for the “HomeFree” symbol when you shop.
With Amazon, just spend $25 or more and get free super saver shipping. Not only that, but both Amazon and Walmart offers are ongoing, meaning there is no deadline to get the free shipping, but don’t delay if you want to get it there by Christmas.
Yes, Black Friday/Cyber Monday are but a distant memory now, but there are still some fantastic deals to be had, and by shopping online you still have a great chance to get it done in time for the big day.
So, shop smart ya’ll and have a wonderful, joyous and safe Holiday Savings Season!

Ebates.com according to their about page “is the pioneer and leader of online Cash Back Shopping. Over 1200 stores to choose from including biggies such as BestBuy, Victoria’s Secret, and Office Depot, and many more. You buy, you save, and you get cash back, as much as 24% though the average range is 3-5%.

And talk about Daily Doubles, I’ve seen it as much as 51% cash back. Now that’s some serious green, and in todays’ economy we could all use a little help from the money saving Gods, right.
Not only can you save and make money by shopping (your gonna shop somewhere, right) you can also earn cash and rewards for just telling others about your new financial freedom riders train to savings.
Ebates scam? I don’t think so, I personally have received my “Big Fat Check” ( that’s the first thing you see when you open the envelope “Here’s Your Big Fat Check” even if it’s just a few dollars, it’s really fun receiving those) but don’t just take my word for it (although you should) read what these folks have to say.
